AMD releases the Ryzen AI 300 series CPUs for the upcoming generation of AI PCs

AMD displayed the Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors for gaming and production of content together with the Ryzen AI 300 series chips.

AMD, a US-based semiconductor manufacturer, has revealed the Ryzen AI 300 series CPUs for the Copilot+ PC platform and other next-generation AI PCs. AMD said during the chips’ announcement that the new Ryzen AI 300 series chips had a new neural processing unit (NPU) that can carry out 50 trillion operations per second (TOPS). AMD also revealed its next-generation desktop Ryzen 9000 series CPUs, targeted at demanding gaming and computing workloads, in addition to the new AI chips.

Details about AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series

The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 are the two CPUs that make up the AMD Ryzen AI 300 series. Based on the company’s new Zen 5 architecture, both of these chips have high performance cores. Ten high performance cores and twenty threads are available in the Ryzen AI 9 365, compared to twelve high performance cores and twenty threads in the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Both processors have a base frequency of 2.0GHz, but the HX 370 has a higher increase frequency of 5.1GHz while the other chip has a frequency of 5.0GHz. Additionally, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor has a larger cache capacity of 36MB as opposed to the Ryzen AI 9 365 chip’s 34MB.

Based on AMD’s XDNA 2 architecture, both of these chips have an NPU that can execute 50 TOPS. According to AMD, the AI engine (NPU) in these processors is “designed for efficient processing of local AI workloads” because of its capacity to handle AI workloads.
